Web Log and News

You finish off a review, and save it to your memory key. Take it home and it won't open. Ok - so you take it back to work and try to open it there, still won't open. So you try to get another copy from your USB key, only to find out the key is busted and won't read in any PC anymore. So you go to restore from a backup and you haven't got one (as you were working from the USB key). So you eventually find the first copy of the file you did - but you've changed 99% of it, so thats practically useless. So you have to start completely again.

In other news, I popped down to Perky's for the weekend just gone and went out for dinner, played games, the usual. So thanks for a nice time hun.

Quick update. First, happy birthday to Perky, she had her birthday the other day, so happy birthday hun!
Second, i've tweaked the code on the shoutbox slightly so now it deals with URLs properly, no more thinking that Google.com is part of my site, now if you don't prefix the URL with the correct chars, it automatically does it for you.
Third, my OCZ Secure Digital Dual card arrived in the post the other day, so expect a write-up to be posted on PlanetX64 soon.

Whoops, I'm getting bad again at writing blogs. And there is so much to say in this one too!

As my pics are messing up the RSS reader, I'll start off with saying that you may have noticed when posting a shout that the date wasn't appearing correctly. This was because the shoutbox was using the same set of code as the program that makes the blog file. I've now corrected this by swapping over the old code for the new one (and for the programmers out there that are shaking their heads and muttering about 'should have used one class instead of copying and pasting code', you're right, and I'll probably correct this in the future). At any rate, shout's should now display correctly. While I was fiddling with the code, i've added a some more security to the shoutbox code, and finally got around to correcting the way URLs are displayed in the shoutbox - so now if there isn't a website entered, a hyperlink shouldn't be displayed. This is all basically untested code though, so if you do spot a problem, please give me a buzz via the usual address.

While I'm on the subject of people leaving shouts, I thought I'd leave a message to my secret admirer. I am 90% sure of who you are, remember that doing anything on the internet leaves a trail, and I spent a lot of time tonight trying to work out who you are. So thanks for the message, and if you really are an admirer, as opposed to just choosing that for your name, leave me your name next time!

Right, now I can tell you about my bike. I've finally got around to buying myself a motorbike. It is only a baby 125CC but it will be plenty to learn to ride on, and means I don't have to take my full bike test to get on the roads. Much more than I wanted to pay for a bike (basically I bought it brand new) but it is great fun and i've been out on it basically every night since I've had it (in the rain, dark, heat, etc) and when possible I ride it to work every day.

This isn't running off the Linux box yet by the way. I've mostly got that sorted but I want to do a few more things to it before I completely submit to it. That, and I remember how much of a pain Linux can be!

So what do you get a woman for her birthday? It's Perky's birthday soon and I owe her two presents! I do have an idea though Perks, so don't think you're safe yet!

Right - got the code sorted for the generation of blog files. Now all blog files will have the same date format which will make them easier to read, and will sort out the RSS feed. So now when you get the RSS feed it will display everything properly. Now to sort out why the new Webserver Linux box isn't working properly!

Well this part of the site is now running from the new webserver! Please drop me a line if you see any issues (apart from the RSS feed cutting out the first letters of sentances, I know about that one).
