Yay my review hardware has arrived! Well I'm told it has anyways as I can't go and pick it up for another week at least. Both Enermax and OCZ's equipment has turned up so I'm looking forward to seeing how good they are. Not much else has been happening here - Perky's wireless ADSL router turned up this afternoon so I spent an hour or so setting that up. Its a D-Link DSL-G604T wireless router that caused me a few problems. For one - you can't change the default subnet without the router locking you out, so that had to stay as it was. Another problem was that the user interface is terrible, I'm an experienced I.T professional and even I had to go looking for where things were. For example - to save all of the settings you have to go deep into one of the menus, then into the "system commands" and then "save all". I mean really, why couldn't they put that somewhere on the main page or every page so it can be easily accessed? The wireless setup wasn't any better - just as I had given up hope that the SSID could be hidden, I found the option to do it - in the "performance" settings. Why the hell was it in there, surely it would be better in a "security" section?! Oh well - keep an eye out for the reviews in the next few weeks - I'm looking forward to doing them!

Finally I get to do my blog again! The reason I've not had chance to do it before now is that I've been so busy doing things. Firstly I've been running around like a blue arsed fly (it's an English expression) trying to sort out my police application. The royal mail has completely lost my application so they've downloaded my old forms again and I've sent in the amendments (recorded delivery this time!) so hopefully everything can go forward now. Secondly a few companies I've contacted about hardware reviews have got back to me so hopefully I'll be getting some new hardware soon, yay! Unfortunately none of the graphics card manufacturers have decided to reply to me (apart from one, who told me they couldn't send me anything) so I don't get a new card. Thirdly I've gone down to Surrey (near London) for a week with a friend (Perky) so I had to spend a few days getting ready for that. Anyways now I've managed to get internet access down here (after a bit of hacking around with a wireless USB key and ICS on their computer) so I can now do my blog down here! I've borrowed a laptop to come down here with (thanks Dad!) and I love it. 6 hours plus on the battery, it's as light as a feather and plays DVDs really well, I must have one! When I get back to the house hopefully I will be able to get this site live!

Non Flash NavIt has been a few days since I've done my blog, so I thought I'd keep anyone who reads it updated! In case you can't see, the picture on the left shows a mod I have made to the navigation bar for users who don't have flash installed on their PCs. Originally I had each of the nav buttons the same colour as the flash version of the navigation bar, but because I couldn't use the shading like they had it looked like a ten year old had designed it! So now the backgrounds to the buttons are black as I think it looks more professional. The downloads page now works too, although it redirects you to the academic work page. On there I have listed a lot of my university work for people to download, please drop me a line if it helps you. As the java version of downloading files is *still* not working for me and I can't seem to fix it, I've just put the page up there for now. All links redirect to a generic directory where all of the work is stored, just download the file you want. You should be able to figure out which file you need from the file name! I'll fix the page as soon as I can, but in the mean time if you are a java developer and know how to do dynamic downloads, *please* drop me a line! In my life not much has been happening, I've managed to get a load of games installed on my Thinkpad 240 (only has 2MB of graphics RAM) which run really well, so I'm happy (but wish I had thought of it ages ago!). Apart from that I've just been exercising as usual, and kicking the PC for being a pain in the ass (hard drive problems again) and I've requested a few graphics cards for review, via PlanetAMD64 so fingers crossed someone will let me review and keep a decent graphics card!

Well, it?s been a long weekend! Not much has happened with the site, I'm still working on getting it live but as I haven't got much content still I think I might just launch it with what I have got. That'll be the information about me - the soap page - the pictures - and my blog. As the dynamic linking to my academic files still isn't working, I'll make the links static for now so people can get the content. If you're using FireFox as your browser then you'll now be seeing a tiny icon called a favicon next to the URL in your browser. Although it doesn't look amazing it took Jen and I nearly a day to come up with an icon I was happy with! We started off making icons using the letters "O D" for Overdrive (obviously!) but a favicon can only be 16 x 16 pixels so it wasn't possible to fit OD in. Then we tried just the "O" in various fonts, but it just didn't look right - either you couldn't tell it was an "O" or it just looked like a circle, and we couldn't find a decent colour scheme for the background. In the end (and after many little adjustments) we settled for the letters "BTJ" (for Bob The Junkie!) in the best design we could (it was a nightmare to fit all of the letters in the tiny space!). Right now I'm just feeling so lethargic, and I have no idea why - it has not been a particularly long day. Oh well, time to check my emails for the last few days!

*Yawn* Another late night for me it seems. I was going to bed but then I realised I hadn't done the blog yet, so I had better do it! Not much news today, Clare and I went for a new walk around the local parks in the sunshine, I played some Final Fantasy X (I will complete it soon!) and watched some silent TV. Yes you read right - silent TV, during a 1 second power cut today (and I didn't imagine it, the PC went off!) the TV seems to have damaged itself and now refuses to play any sound what so ever, I can't even get static noise out of it. So for now we've had to resort to using the media centre as a TV (it has a cheap tuner card in it) which for some reason badly off syncs the sound and picture. On the RAM issue I was having a few days ago, it is basically all resolved, and I'm very impressed with Ebuyer. Here is the timeline:

Sunday afternoon - Use Ebuyer's enotes system to ask for an RMA
Sunday night - Get RMA number through email
Monday afternoon - Send faulty RAM back to Ebuyer
Wednesday morning - Get several emails from Ebuyer, stating that they had received and checked the RAM and it was faulty. They cannot replace it as they do not stock it anymore so they are giving me a complete refund for the cost I paid for it over a year and a half ago.

Now that is good service. Not only are they giving me a refund but the entire process was completed within three days, when it normally takes 10-14 days to get it all sorted. Compared to the problems I had with Overclockers UK a few months ago, this was easy, well done Ebuyer, keep it up I will certainly be buying from you again.
