Yes I know, I'm useless at updating this blog. Excuses aside, I'll try to do a bit better.

No more spam on the shoutbox but the site is still getting hits, so that's great. I've managed to get a wireless key for the server, so it should have a better uptime than I was having over the previous months.

My review of the OCZ 8800GTX has been completed and you can read about it here. Look out for more reviews coming soon as I get back into the swing of things.

I've got a new job now, I'm working as a support analyst for a large retail chain. It's still not what I want to do, but it's one step closer than I was before. The only thing is, the shift work is killing me. It's more money though!

Well it's been a month and I've not seen anymore bot postings on the shoutbox, so it's looking better than it used to be.

Not much news to report, I've moved house, and I have to use a wireless rather than a wired network there, but as I only have one wireless key right now, using the PC and server at the same time is not going to happen. So if you hit the site and it is down 'again', you'll know why!

My review of the Antec P190 is complete and is just awaiting some scoring, after that you'll be able to see it at PlanetX64.

Speaking of reviews, I'm in the middle of an OCZ 8800GTX, and I'm having no end of problems. The card itself is fine, it's the Nvidia drivers that refuse to let me display whatever resolutions I want on the CRT monitor. Although the CRT can do 1600 x 1200, the drivers won't let me go past 1280 x 1024, which is seriously frustrating. I'm not the only one thats suffered from this "monitor cap", but I just can't seem to fine a way around it. Rivatuner and Powerstrip don't seem to want to work, which leaves me a bit stuck for reviews. If you know of any way around this, please drop me a line on the address on the contact page.

I'm trying yet again, another technique to keep the bots out of the shoutbox. Let's see if this one works any better than the last one.

Due to bots (again) I've removed the shout box. One day (when I get time to re-write the website) I'll add in a CAPTCHA, but until then I'll probably take it down. If you want to leave me a message, please email me on the address provided on the contact page.

In tech news, I've managed to get a hold of a OCZ 8800GTX, so expect a review of that to come out at PlanetX64 soon. I'm just finishing off a review of the Antec P190 gaming case at the moment, so expect to see that up there soon as well.

Who am I? Am I Overdrive, CakeMonster, Techpimp?!

In fact we're all of these for now. I've bought two domains for this site - CakeMonster.co.uk and techpimp.co.uk. CakeMonster is going to be my primary address for this site, so please change your bookmarks and RSS feeds to point to cakemonster now, as I'm not going to be keeping the overdrive domain for much longer.

I've also managed to sort out a long standing bug in my web server setup, where by to get to the Overdrive site you had to go to www.overdrive.dnsalias.com and then add a forward slash then overdrive again. This was because I had two JSP sites running on this box with one copy of Tomcat to power them. For the life of me I couldn't figure out how to get the root of the website to display my website, I had to have the forward slash. Anyway, to cut a long story short, it now works correctly, I have two Tomcat instances, one for each site. For anyone else running into these issues, the second Tomcat instance's executables (both of them) have to be renamed. It's got to do with Tomcat trying to launch a service based on the name of it's executable, and because one Tomcat instance is already running - it won't work.

In tech news, my review of the Crucial PC2-8500 memory is complete and is currently undergoing editing at PlanetX64. Expect to see it up there soon. I'm also in the middle of reviewing the massive Antec P190 case, and first impressions are good (although the price tag isn't).

A horrible thought: are we too lazy to update our blogs, or does nothing interesting happen to us? Hmm.
